Catherine Nolan

WM-ADASS Associate

After initially qualifying in special education, Catherine took the opportunity to work with adults who had learning disabilities – it was an experience which she loved and has never regretted the change of plan which it prompted!

Catherine lived and worked in the USA for several years – initially living in an ‘intentional community’ and subsequently working for a ‘not for profit’ organisation in Wyoming, which focussed on preparing people with learning disabilities for paid employment and living in their own homes.

On returning to the UK, Catherine worked for a national charity before moving in to Local Authority adult social care; managing operational and commissioning services for people with learning disabilities but always particularly enjoying the challenges and benefits that can be realised from integrated health and social care services.

Catherine’s motivation is social justice for a group of people who continue to experience exclusion and inequality and she has therefore; a particular interest in areas of practice, commissioning and policy which actively promote inclusion and citizenship.
